Meet Dr Kelly Harrison
Founder of K2 Light Therapy
Doctor of Chiropractic | Laser Therapist | 20+ Years of Clinical Experience
K2 Light Therapy began in a treatment room, not a boardroom. With over 20 years of clinical experience, Dr Kelly Harrison saw firsthand how powerful light therapy could be. After using it in his own recovery, he set out to make clinical-grade red light therapy simple, effective, and accessible for home use.
Who is Dr Kelly Harrison, and why did he start K2?
About Dr. Harrison - The Early Years
Dr Harrison grew up in Olds, Alberta, a small town that taught him honesty, practical solutions, and caring for people the right way. These values became the foundation of his approach to healthcare and wellness.
He studied at Northwestern Health Sciences University in Minneapolis, Minnesota, earning his Doctorate of Chiropractic (DC) in 2002. For more than 20 years, he has combined chiropractic care, soft-tissue therapy, and innovative laser technologies to help patients of all ages, from recreational athletes to seniors and Olympic competitors.
His goal has always been simple: provide care that works, backed by science, experience, and measurable results.
Clinical Practice & Expertise Highlights:
- Founder of Prairie Dog Wellness Clinic in Calgary
- Specialist in Class IV Medical Laser Therapy
- Expertise in red and near-infrared photobiomodulation
- 20+ years treating chronic injuries, soft-tissue trauma, and sports recovery
- Former chiropractor for amateur and professional athletes
How did Dr Harrison discover the power of light therapy?
The Accident - The Turning Point
In 2012, an accident changed his perspective. Dr Harrison was struck by a cyclist. He sustained fractures to his arm and shoulder blade, along with multiple muscle and ligament tears. He tried traditional therapies: Physiotherapy, Active Release Techniques, Graston therapy, Cupping, Dry needling, and acupuncture. But progress was limited.
A colleague recommended Class IV laser therapy. Over six months, combined with targeted rehabilitation exercises, laser treatments accelerated tissue recovery and restored function. Experiencing this firsthand transformed his understanding of light-based therapy.
It was no longer theoretical. It was personal. If light could help him recover from complex trauma, what could it do for others? That question eventually led to K2 Light Therapy.
Clinical Healing - How Light Therapy Works
Red and near-infrared light therapy helps cells:
- Produce more energy
- Repair tissue faster
- Reduce inflammation
- Recover from injury more efficiently
At the cellular level, light stimulates the mitochondria, giving cells the fuel they need to heal. Research consistently shows benefits for tissue repair, muscle recovery, and inflammation reduction.
Observed Clinical Benefits:
- Faster Tissue Repair: Muscles, ligaments, and skin heal more quickly
- Reduced Inflammation: Supports joint health and eases discomfort
- Improved Recovery: Speeds up recovery after exercise or injury
- Enhanced Cellular Energy: Optimizes cell regeneration

The Red Light Gap - Why Most Devices Fail
Why don’t most at-home devices work? Dr Harrison noticed a gap: people wanted clinical-grade results at home, but most devices failed. Common problems included:
Weak LEDs or insufficient power
Incorrect or inconsistent wavelengths
Poor beam alignment and coverage
Lack of heat management and safety standards
Minimal or confusing guidance on use
For red light therapy to be effective at home, devices need precision, safety, and usability to the same standards used in clinical tools.
How was K2 designed to deliver real results at home?
K2 Development: Clinical Grade Light Therapy for Home Use
In 2024, Dr Harrison began developing K2 Light Therapy with one clear objective: bring true clinical-grade light therapy into the home without compromise. He partnered with a manufacturer with over 14 years of R&D experience in medical-grade light systems. Together, they refined every technical element to ensure therapeutic performance in a home environment.
Power Output for Therapeutic Effectiveness
Many consumer panels lack sufficient irradiance. K2 devices are engineered to deliver therapeutic-level power output across the treatment surface, not just at the center ensuring consistent cellular stimulation.
Optimized Beam Angles & LED Placement
Light must reach tissue evenly to be effective. K2 panels use calibrated beam angles and strategic LED positioning to minimize light scatter and ensure uniform coverage across the body.
Custom Wavelength Combinations
K2 incorporates research-aligned wavelengths: 630 nm, 660 nm, 810 nm, 830 nm, and 850 nm. Each wavelength was selected to support cellular energy production, tissue repair, collagen support, and inflammation regulation.
Heat Management, EMF Safety & Durability
Therapeutic devices must remain safe during repeated use. K2 systems include structured heat dissipation, low-EMF engineering, and durable construction designed for long-term reliability in the home.
User Focused Design for Home Use
Clinical tools are often complex. K2 panels are designed to be simple, intuitive, and practical, allowing users to apply light therapy safely and consistently without technical confusion.
Dr Harrison remains personally involved in product oversight, ensuring every panel meets high standards for performance, safety, and real-world usability inside the home.
Why Most Panels Fail - And How K2 Solves It
Most consumer red light panels are designed to sell, not deliver results. K2 addresses every common failure:
Most panels are built to sell. K2 is built to perform consistently and effectively.
Trusted, Safe, and Built on Science
K2 Light Therapy was never meant to be a trend. It was built to bring clinical-quality tools into homes.
Every device is developed under Dr. Harrison’s guidance. They are made in facilities that are certified. Each panel meets medical device standards for safety and quality.
K2 is still based in Olds, Alberta. Dr. Harrison continues practicing at Prairie Dog Wellness, using his clinical experience to guide every update, improvement, and new product.
The brand focuses on reliability, transparency, and science-backed results. K2 devices give people the confidence that their light therapy is safe, effective, and long-lasting.
A Mission to Make Light Therapy Accessible
Dr. Harrison believes good health should be simple and reliable. His mission with K2 is to:
Make light therapy accessible to everyone
Remove confusion and misinformation
Provide clear, science-based education
Create devices people can trust for years
Show that small Canadian companies can innovate globally
He focuses on merging technology, research, and practicality. Every device and guide is designed to help people feel better without unnecessary complexity.
Commitment to Education and Safety
Red light therapy continues to grow, with athletes, seniors, and everyday users experiencing its benefits.
Dr Harrison remains directly involved in every K2 device. He:
Reviews new clinical research and NASA photobiomodulation findings
- Analyzes real-world user feedback
- Checks wavelengths and therapeutic power levels
- Tests and validates device performance
- Refines safety, beam angles, and usability
- Writes and reviews science-based education materials
Each update focuses on three priorities: results, usability, and safety.
K2 is not just about selling panels. It is about delivering clinical-grade light therapy with proper guidance, responsible education, and continuous improvement, combining science, engineering, and real-world experience.
Life, Philosophy & Personal Commitment
Outside the clinic, Dr Harrison enjoys Alberta mornings on the golf course, grilling new recipes, travelling with his partner Emma, and spending time with their Mini Goldendoodle, Maggie Tallula. Community and balance remain important to him.
That same small-town mindset shapes K2: honest, practical, and results-focused.
We care more about quality than quantity. Every panel is designed to deliver real results, be easy to use, and remain affordable and accessible.
He continues practicing at Prairie Dog Wellness, ensuring every K2 device reflects real clinical experience and evidence-based standards.
